Gary Monti has confirmed which of last year's squad will be at Wivenhoe Town for the 2020/21 Season.

The majority of the First Team squad have re-signed for the new season.

Ben Gallifant - (100 games, 3 goals) - Goalkeeper - Galli returned to Wivenhoe last season from Little Oakley and soon secured the number one shirt. A good shot stopper and having also played in midfield for the Dragons he distributes the ball well.

Tim Dennis - (245 games, 20 goals) - Defender - With just one season away from Wivenhoe in the last decade he is now amongst the club's top appearance makers. A solid defender who spent some of last season at full contributing a number of assists.

Matt Coppen - (31 games - 1 goal) - Defender - Signed last summer he became an ever present at the heart of the Wivenhoe defence. His former teams include Heybridge Swifts, Burnham Ramblers and more recently Halstead Town. A very good defender who reads the game well.

Ross James - (36 games - 8 goals) - Defender / Midfielder - Signed for the club during the 2018 / 19 season. A high energy wide player who is more than capable of contributing goals. Former clubs include Chelmsford City and Heybridge Swifts.

James Couzens - (2 games - 0 goals) - Defender - Signed in February 2020 just before the cancellation of last season. A solid fullback formerly of Heybridge Swifts and Burnham Ramblers.

Josh Chapman - (17 games - 3 goals) - Defender / Midfielder - A young right back or wide midfielder who returned to the club in early 2020 after a spell at Coggeshall United. Originally joined the club in the 2018/19 season and impressed with a string of strong performances.

Jack Mead - (34 games, 9 goals) - Defender / Midfielder - Joined the club from Saffron Walden Town ahead of the 2019 / 20 season. Was an ever present at full back or in central midfield and always put in a high energy performance and scored an impressive nine goals.

David Lopez - (58 games, 5 goals) - Midfielder - Re-joined Wivenhoe ahead of the 2019/20 season having spent a season and half at Long Melford. Composed on the ball and a good passer he is now fully fit ahead of the new season.

Sam Mead - (31 games, 6 goals) - Midfielder - Signed for Wivenhoe during the 2018/19 season. His former clubs include Great Baddow, Heybridge Swifts and Saffron Walden Town. A creative attacking midfielder capable of contributes his share of goals and assists.

Lewis Hagland - (13 games, 0 goals) - Midfielder - Joined the club during the 2019/20 season but his season was disrupted by injury. Lewis is a box to box central midfielder. His playing history includes Bishops Stortford, Norwich City, Billericay Town, Eton Manor and most recently Epping Town.

Dean Merrett - (25 games, 12 goals) - Midfielder / Forward - Dragons Captain who leds by example. He signed during the 2018/19 season and finished as the club's top scorer last season despite two spells out with bad injuries. Leads by example he is a high energy player who causes a nuisance for opposition defenders and proved to be deadly in the air. A former Welsh amateur international player, he also has experience of playing in Germany.

Matt Tapley - (20 games, 5 goals) - Midfielder - Signed towards the start of the 2019/20 season, he spent the previous two seasons at Hullbridge Sports and was part of the squad which won the Essex Senior league. Capable of delivering a dangerous ball into the box from set pieces, he contributed assists and goals last season.

Scott Grant - (3 games, 0 goals) - Forward - A young attacker who will predominantly feature for the Reserves but will get opportunities to step up. A natural striker with a good eye for goal.

George Hart - (23 games, 8 goals) - Forward - Joined towards the end of 2018 / 19 season but has seen each of the last two seasons disrupted by injury. A composed finisher with pace and good ability on the ball. Includes Heybridge Swifts and Burnham Ramblers amongst his former clubs.

Tom Lakin - (22 games, 8 goals) - Forward - Previously at Saffron Walden Town, a hard-working forward who is good in the air and gets his share of goals. Another who had a disrupted 2019/20 season due to a bad injury.

Freddie Horrocks - Reserves / Under 18s - Forward - Has come through the Wivenhoe Town Youth system and is a great example to all the other young players within the Club. Whilst he will mostly feature for the Reserves, he has been given a chance to shine in preseason and hasn't disappointed. he is expected to get first team chances this season.

Manager Gary Monti (GM) also confirmed that the following first team players from last season have left the club:

CJ Cabulo - (27 games, 5 goals) - GM - "A lovely guy but travelling up from London meant he often missed the pre-match preparations. All our players are pretty local now, that has been done deliberately"

Alex David - (1 game, 0 goals) - GM - "A really good prospect but he now studies on a Saturday which has restricted his football"

Mike Fitzgibbon - (25 games, 4 goals) - GM "Mike had a frustrating 2019/20 season, in and out of the team. He has been offered a chance to play for Stanway Rovers and I wish him all the best"

Connor Smith - (22 games, 3 goals) - GM - "Connor has opted to step up a couple of levels and play for Witham Town this season. He deserves his chance in a higher league and I hope he does well"

Ezra Drann - (3 games, 1 goal) - GM - "Ezra has opted to return to his former club Cornard United and play with a group of players he knows well. I liked Ezra, he knew how to play the strikers role and I was sad to see him leave"

Peter Maina - (70 games, 13 goals) - GM - "Peter left us towards the end of last season. He is another to have gone to Stanway Rovers"

Robbie Asaro and Junior Gibson have also not been retained for the new season.
