Ryan Vickery signed for the Dragons during the 2022/23 season and played a big role in the end of season uplift in form. Appointed Vice-Captain for the 2023/24 season, he is the first player to answer our player focus questions ahead of he new season.

Describe yourself as a player:
I love a tackle and a header! Will always play for badge and fight for the boys through thick and thin.
Why did you sign for Wivenhoe Town again this season?
I like the ideas and the project that Kieron, Ollie and Lionel have brought to the club, plus a great bunch of both old and new faces.
How's pre-season gone?
With only being able to play the first 3 games due to being on holiday it is looking bright! The fact we have a lot of new faces around the club, there is some really good football being played. It’s all about building that team chemistry and finding out how each other play, but that’s what pre-season is for and every game and every training session we’re bonding more as a squad and it’s starting to show on the pitch. We’re creating a group identity which you will see straight away.
What are your personal ambitions for the season?
Help keep as many clean sheets as possible and even get on the score sheet a few times.
What do you think the club can achieve this season?
As a new side with new management, it’s going to be tough, but we’re looking forward to it and looking to build on our pre-season. Personally, I think we should be looking for playoffs, a hard challenge but I definitely think we’re capable.
Which of your team mates should supporters be excited to watch this season?
Michael Nwankwo, he’s going to cause defenders a lot of headaches this season.
What's one fact the supporters should know about you?
I was asked to play cricket as an overseas player for 6 months in Australia and continue to play cricket now.
